SILVISMART article published in BeSustainable Magazine

TECH4EFFECT Project Co-ordinator and Head of Research of the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO), Rasmus Astrup, spoke about the benefits of the SILVISMART digital efficiency portal in a BeSustainable article, published in July 2020. SILVISMART offers key steps towards digitisation of the European sector in delivering precision forestry for business intelligence and environmental management, amongst other things.

He pointed out that there was a lot of untapped potential for the uptake of technological solutions and data sharing which will, in the end, help manage and harvest Europe’s valuable timber resources in an efficient and sustainable manner.

“It’s all about the speed with which industry has been able to embrace technology and use digital solutions. It has a lot to do with the way people view technological change and how they see the benefit. The predominance of CTL operations in the Nordics makes it an easier case for rapid digitalization, but on the other hand, there may be even greater potential gains through digitalisation in other parts of Europe,” he said.
